    ... an Aero blower?

See, a while ago I bought an Aero 4 Lite cooler...unfortunatley it was a P4 cooler and I don't have a P4.. doh! So I got a Aero 7+ cooler instead. Now, I've tried to sell this thing to my friends, nobody seems to want it. So, I'm stuck with a bimetalic heatsink that fits onto a P4 socket, and an Aero blower fan.

What the heck to do with such a thing? I thought maybe modifying it so that it would fit over a socket 7 heatsink, and use it on my server for extra cooling. Or perhaps doing the most crazy video card mod in the world :p lol. Its just a bit big to put on my chipset, which is what I would do if it were a normal fan.

Ive also got a heatsink for P4... what could I do with that? Hmmm...

    Any ideas, creative people?

You could always try something goofy like this... those fans are kind of fun to play with.

Here is my 'ol CM box that I've used for testing and experimenting for a while. The exhaust fan the top used to have a metal screen that was fashioned in a way that it acted as a bracket to mount the fan on threaded nuts fixed to the case. After many times removing this fan/screen assembly, it crumbled and I needed to find a new way to mount a fan because this box ALWAYS ran hot.

This is a closer look at that hood-type thing on the top that I put together. The electronics are guts from a TT Hardcano 10 that I "retired."

Looking inside, you can see the Aero 4 fan hanging down from the top, acting as an exhaust.

What I did was mount an aluminum fan directly to the "hood", covered the bottom in felt to avoid scratching the case and shaved down the side of the fan housing so that it fit nicely into the 80mm fan hole in the top of the case.

So, all I have to do drop the fan thru the hole, and set the whole unit on the top and plug the wires. This has two fan controllers and two thermal sensors and I've also wired up the Aero 4 to still have it's own little rheostat as well.

    Hehe, wow, cool :D

I've canibalised all the connectors and the 10k pot which came with the fan (for my LCD display.. see I needed a 10k pot to change contrast and a molex adaptor to get power), so I've now got a fan with 2 wires coming off it and a fan header wire to detect speed with. I guess I could always get a new 10k pot and make a home-made rheobus with it. Could be cool :D

    Goldfish,
Did you have any trouble adjusting contrast on your LCD mod? I have yet to find a combo that brings out the characters enough to view. Tried 10k var., straight 10k resistor, and wired straight to grd but no luck. My setup is an Optrex 4x20 LCD w/ BL and an HD44780 controller. Willing to try anything now.
