I don't mean to bump a 2yo thread but I have a question relating to this topic. Bear in mind that I am a simple old dude with very basic needs.

I am looking to buy a new TV. I would like to use this TV to display internet from my computer wirelessly along with my basic cable service. Currently I have Verizon Fios service. It's a panel with coax. It then gets split to a wireless modem for my computer and to the back of a cable box. The cable box is connected coax to the TV. I would like to have my new TV be wirelessly connected along with my Internet. I've seen some 32" for $169 at 720, some kind of Roku thing. I can also pick up a Seiki SE32HY for a few bucks less. Would something like that do the trick? I don't need 1080. I don't do any gaming so my speed is minimal.

Like I said, minimal needs at minimal cost. Watch TV, do Internet, both wirelessly. I'd much rather ask a Geek than a salesman.

Any Smart TV that has built in Wifi (it will automatically include a socket for an optional wired connection) will do what you want. The choice for you is the size and cost.

Let me get this correct. If my TV is smart it can wirelessly draw from the modem for TV stuff. My computer will be wireless also and communicate to the TV to do my Internet stuff.

So the connection would be wired panel to the modem, no more wires to my TV or computer, right? I can now move my TV and computer within some limited distance with freedom, right?

This Roku thing I've been looking at can do all of that?

OK let me go through it again.
If you have a wireless-capable modem/router for your internet connection, and the Smart TV has an inbuilt WiFi adapter (which they all do now and you can simply choose to buy one that has WiFi) then you don't need any wired connection.
I don't know or ever used Roku so I suggest you read its user manual.

Wireless would certainly be good! Make sure you've thought about all the inputs - remotes, keyboard, mouse etc.

By the way, the only specific TV model you mentioned (Seiki SE32HY) appears NOT to be a smart TV. You can stream stuff through it from a separate device via a wired connection. But it's definitely not a 'Smart' TV.
