Make sure the microphone is actually turned on in Windows. Double-click the little bell on the taskbar....go to the options menu and click on properties...then select show the following volume controls for microphone. Make sure then that the microphone is turned up.

Then there should be specific software that will record from the microphone channel. If your making a movie...the movie editor will have an option for line in or something as an example. Windows also comes with the necessary software. The program is called "Sound Recorder." At least that's what it's called on this 2000 machine.

If there's not a hardware problem with your sound card, then it's only a matter of clicking the right check boxes.
Most PC's especially new ones have some sort of default sound recorder installed. All mine do.

If that don't work, try installing a program like MusicMatch. Do a Google search.

I shouldn't have created two threads that were basically the same, but I was desparate to find an answer to my problem.

Like I said in the other thread; thanks for listening and helping me out, everybody. :) I think that I have fixed the problem.

To use a microphone, you have to have a full duplex sound card. To test whether you have full duplex sound card, use any voice recorder program and try to record your own voice... if you succeed in this, then you're fine... if not, you'll have to get a new sound card to use the microphone... sowwy. But if you can record your own voice, you may want to check the audio properties and make sure you have the microphone enabled and NOT muted. Might wanna try updating sound card driver, though I don't think that would be the problem.
