Music Editing - You cant beat Cubasis
Virus - I`m trialling out AVG Free edition at the moment (Anyone got any experience with this... only been using it for 3 or 4 days)

I get/got my versions of PS from ex-company ( worked in photo/imaging for 15yrs ) for versions earlier than CS and CS2 from a reletives company I help out ( in lieu of payment ) in fixing stuff and image manipulation etc

To be prefectly honest most users of PS use less than 5% of what PS can do, its a status thing.... even I dont use much of what the app can do and I have had 2 training courses on PS useage... which is why I have simpler apps to do the mundaine edits.

Xbox on a 55in HDTV > PC games.

World of Warcraft runs on Mac...thats the only game I ever play anyway ;)

As for software, one could argue there is just as much (maybe even more) Mac software as Windows, because I can run Unix/Linux ports. As well, I can still run legacy software, which we all know, Windows XP has some serious limitations there ;)

donnmijsa2, I would definitely recommend changing from Internet Explorer, get Firefox or Opera. You can search google for those.
If you want a new burning program, a good freeware program is CD Burner XP. It really good and powerful..
Definitely need to get a proper firewall, look at F-Secure Client security and antivirus, Outpost firewall or you could just look at some of the other posts in this thread..

Hello, I have been using AVG Antivirus, by Grisoft for about a year. It is freeware and it works very well.
In Google type "avg free" and check it out. You might also check out download.com. lots of freeware available.
They also have a few good antispyware programs including Adaware SE, Spybot and Spyware doctor etc...hope this helps :)

cApNhOwDy, Why would anyone want, or even need more than one dedicated Antivirus program?

I certainly hope you don't run them at the same time.

I've only ever used one Antivirus program and have never caught a virus.

  29. Insomniac

Insomniac Billy Ray Cyrus #1 Fan

I doubt it, and there is nothing that suggests that.

That's 4 Antivirus programs on the one PC!

Some people have a mistaken belief that having more than one Antivirus program means you are better protected, or one will pick up something another doesn't.

  30. cApNhOwDy

    cApNhOwDy Private E-2

Added protection. I'm a bit of an obsessionist, yes. Regaurdless, it doesnt hurt to have them all on there just in case. As far as the "one will pick up something another doesn't", I'm going to have to disagree. Alot of times, SpyBot will pick up 5 or 6 things that Adaware will have left behind, which is why most people recommend that you have both programs. It's the same with AVG Free and all of the other antivirus programs that I have, I'm always picking up more and more items that the others left behind. Regaurdless of whether they might have been just dead registry files, or if the scan was just a big waste of time, it doesnt hurt to get rid of the items that they pick up. What with more risks being produced every day..... brrrrr, it's tough being a computer.

Oh yes, and also comparing WinPatrol to AVG Free's Resident Shield, both of them always pop up for the same new program, but it's what TIME they pop up. Sometimes, Resident Shield will pick up a new program that's trying to install itself 30 minutes before WinPatrol picks it up, and sometimes it's vice-versa. So, I like being informed about what kind of whatknot's trying to gain access to my computer ASAP.

I am just too lazy to keep more than one updated, or to run scans.

  32. Brandon

Norton and AntiVir should pick of the majority of viruses. Having Avast and AVG isnt gonna pick up anything if Norton or AntiVir already did a ondemand scan....

Its good too have atleast two antivirus programs on your computer, but one only on realtime protection. Then running them both for ondemand scanning...

Also I forgot too add too my list:
    • MVP's Host File
    • IESpyad
    • Script Sentry
    • WormGuard

  33. Insomniac

There is no need to have more than one Antivirus, which you should keep updated.

No professional or expert in this industry recommends more than one.

Just because you guys haven't had a problem yet doing so, doesn't mean it's OK.

You could run blindfolded across a road and never get hit by a car, doesn't mean it's smart or safe though.

Since not all antivirus programs dont pick up everything its a good idea too have another antivirus program on your computer..Its not recommended but its a good idea too.

As long as you keep only one antivirus program running it will be fine..running two at the same time will cause you some problems...And for ondemand scan just run one after the other....
