    Hi everyone,
I got a old computer from a friend of mine. Its a gateway 2000 w/ pII 233mhz 198MB memory and 8mb graphics card. I installed windows and now have to load the drivers for the sound card. The problem: I have no clue what card it is. I opened the case and there are no stickers or markings on the card. I also have tried belark advisor but it found nothing. I used the hardware wizzard too. Microsoft update found nothing. I am running win98 on it now.

any ideas on how to figure out what kind of card it is?

    thanks,

    have you tried direct x?

if you haven't, do the following: click start -> click run -> type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) -> navigate to the sound tab

I'm not sure if this will work. But it's worth a try.

    HI,
I have all ready tried ADIA32, and checked the gateway website. I think the card was put in a couple of weeks after the computer was bought so no luck there.

I never thought to use directx. I'll give it a go and let you know how it works.

    Thanks,

I only suggested ADIA because, it does identify my Creative SB Live sound card on an old IBM PC that I have.
It also identifies in summary, and in Multimedia/PCI/PnP Audio, and in DirectX Sound.

I suppose if maybe something odd, may not detect, maybe not in Adia data base? HUM!
    Does PC detect unknown device.

No offence, Gotta Ask?, but is your sound card attached correctly.

It may be an old no-name cheap card that SIIG and others used to make, and may not be PNP, or identifiable. 233 Mhz sounds like maybe 1996 or so?

May have to scare up an old Soundblaster16 or something identifiable.

    Non taken :D

It definitly is in there. I took it out again to look at it better still no more info.

The computer was bought in 96. I am pretty sure they got a real cheep sound card in there. Most likly a no-namer like you said. I'll look around for some thing cheep. I just want to use this thing to store music on.

Are there any universal drivers out there that might work.. just a thought

Well thanks for the help. I'll mess around a bit more, and if i cant get something to work ill just drop in an older card.

    Thanks,

    Hi everyone,
I ran some wierd program i found on the net. It came with a load of spyware but it did the job.
The card is a Ensonioq ES1370. I downloaded the driver. It was a zip file. I ran winzip and got a list of about 15 files. How do i install this thing? There is no setup file or an exe?

    thanks,

As long as there is an .inf file, you can install the drivers manually. Just go through Device Manager->Sound card properties->Driver tab->Update Drivers. From there it's a little different depending on the OS.

Er, that's the source code for your drivers, most likely for Linux.

    Try these:
    95/98

    Others:
    Dos, Win 3.x
    Win NT
