WHAT spam!? Noooo no no.

What the.... I've had my email address for like a year.

I never give it out.

And then tonight

for the first time (on this email address)

I got spam....

better yet they sent me one of those Insta Kiss scam thingies.




How did this happen!?

I'm sorry Cano i guess it happens some how. Funny thing i have had my gmail since they where available, and i give it out all over the place. I have never had one piece of spam mail.

Bots routinely scan websites harvesting email addys for spam purposes. ANY time you post your email addy where it's visible online, you risk giving it to spammers.

 

I got another spam today...

Also, check your account options with your ISP. Lots of the better ones have good spam filtering before it ever gets to you. I don't know what program they use, but BellSouth has a great spam filter. They catch about 80 a day on my account, and usually only one or two get through.

 

I barely get any spam. Maybe I'm just lucky...

 

Hm... i get about one spam message a week. gmail used to be terrible at spam blocking, but i can tell they're getting better.

Okay... I have a question.

Is there anyway that spammers can spoof spam? I think that's the right word. I got a baaaaad spam email, and I saw it was sent from an AOL member so I checked their profile, and it was just a regular person they had a profile and everything and they weren't even online. They couldn't have done it.

Also I ran Ad-Ware SE last night and saw I had Softomate spyware. Do you think the spyware had picked up my email address?

 

i get spam all the time but they go right into the junk mail folder and i barely even touch the junk mail folder...

its just like you can spoof your ip address, you can spoof your email

 

happened to my dad a while back. not sure how but he became one of the server people that send out spam and viruses. So everyday he would get 1000 messages saying "inbox could not be reached" and stuff. turned out it was a trojan.
