Ok, CCleaner is what I used for the startup programs and to clean my temp items.

These are the ones that you weren't sure of:

    dla - c/windows/system32/dla/tfswctrl.exe

    update manager - c/program files/common files/sonic/updatemgr/sgtray.exe

Yes, I use AVG for my virus protection. I don't believe I have a firewall.

I am using Windows XP for my operating system.

Thanks for your help and I will await your reply/suggestions.

Agreed - you should avoid using msconfig to deal with startups, but CCleaner is not the best program to use. CCleaner is not recommend to be used for controlling startups since there is no backup.

If you need to control what items load use a startup manager intended for this purpose. Like this: Startup CPL
