what tasks should be running in xp pro sp2??

the title says it all. i am trying to speed up afew games so what is needed by windows in order to run? below is a screen shot of tast manager

 

you know i dont know what starwind is. do you think it would be wise to run HJT and have someone look at it just in case??

 

yea i do have 120.
i know i have nothing bad in my system. or else spybot or Avast would of said something right?

DO NOT turn off your AV unless you are disconnected from the internet.

Look at your msconfig/ startup tab to see what is running at startup.
You can stop things like IM/ office. ie stuff that you can start only when needed.
Otherwise as previously stated, the process group looks ok.

and i think my sound driver is causeing a slow boot because its one of the last things to load and so right after the xp loading screen it will sit there and hang for a few mins and other times it will go to login screen in under 30sec of turning on the computer.

 

just 2 games are running slow and thats BF1942 (fully patched) it will start jumping all over the place even on very low settings same with UT2004 (dvd version fully patched)

while others like GTA VC and Doom3 run fine at high FPS
with setting set on the highest they can go

 

i dont never play online tho (dialup) that might change soon. as on the 1st of next month we are going back to FL to look at a house and we might/will be getting it so i will be moving and thin i will be able to get dsl or something

 

You can also play around with services, but only do them one at a time, and leave it for a while to make sure everything is OK.

Do not do them all at once. HERE is a list, but remember, it's not written in stone.

What works on one PC may not work on yours, it's a guide only.
