What the Font ?

Does anyone know what font was used for this sign ?

I have a goodly collection of fonts in MS Word, so far could be Elephant or Engravers MT, they are close, also, Modern No. 20 is a close resemblance.

A great site I use for fonts that I believe may have been posted here already somewhere is http://www.myfont.de/

Some of it is in German, but it is easy enough to figure out what you are looking at.

Hope this helps. Tough to be sure because of the format it is in, but thosea re the closest of what I have on hand.

Thanks for that. I managed to find a couple of fonts that are similar, but not identical to it. It's a really old shop sign from the 1970s so I guessed it might be difficult to match.

I have a friend who does a lot of custom finish work, including signage, and I know he is always bugging me for fonts and such. I know he does a lot of freehand work too. That is the really hard stuff to try to match up.

A few years back, he did a sign similar to that for a business, did it all freehand, was awesome. Then the business wanted to know what font it was so they could use it for letterhead. Took me almost 2 weeks to find a fint that was close and tweak it to be almost identical. Lotta work, but fun and I got soem $$ out of the deal too....

Go here (if you haven't already) for a list of 30 fonts that are consistent with the characteristics of the image you posted. I haven't gone through the whole list but a couple I looked at are darn close...could spot it easier if I was up to quota on my morning coffee!
