What the....?

Operating System, is WIndows ME with Internet explorer 6

Okay, here goes...
Everytime I reboot my computer, everything goes good, but as the icons appear, so does this software type thing come on to. I have no idea what it is, some sort of device for pictures I think. I remember one time when I had problems and was talking to the tech at Dell, and I kept showing with a window that there was a device that was not being identified, and he could not find out how to find it or get to it. Everytime that window comes up, I just close it and it is gone. This is what is says...

First, there is a box with what looks like four tv screens in it
Click on it, and it turns into larger box with task button, sample button with a scroll bar
The is a picture with mountains in it, and if you choose to scroll, it shows different nature scenery, must me some sort of picture software I think?
Under that, there there is a action with copy. cut, delete, send items too, print item and item details

In box with the tv's (now in a larger box) that has options that read...with compact view, docked view, or gallery view

Under the task button has the options of
New collection
Rename current collection
Delete current collection
Paste
Insert file
Send collection to
Print collection
and then there is the optons, help, and close button

If I hit options, there is a close choice, and when I choose it, the whole things goes away. How do I know what this thing is, and get rid of it? I have no idea how I got it, or where it came from, It showd up when Dell and I cleared my hard drive and showed up then.

gary, have you done an adaware and spybot search and destroy scan? sounds like some sort of intrusive adware/spyware

 

possible that this could be related to Webshots?

 

i know webshots has that internet camera option that sends you new pictures everytime you computer starts up or something along those lines... perhaps this is what Gary is dealing with...

 

Wow, I think I found it!

You know, I have gone to control alt and delete several times to see what is running, and never found anything that sounded out of the ordinary.......until today. When it first came on, within a sec I went to this, and a program that sounds like this must be it, was there. It was called Microsoft Works Portfolio....this must be it! But....how do I get it to stop coming on everytime I turn on my computer or reboot? Like I said, it never did this until the cleaning of my hard drive and Dell had me checking and unchecking all sorts of things in the devices and drivers section, lol!

Hi Gary
Start---run--type Msconfig--Enter--Look for the start-up tab and see if you can see any reference too it there if you can uncheck the box next to it
Apply and Ok
You will be prompted to restart,once you have you will get a message just tick the box dont show me this again and Ok

See if that works

 

Xflat and you are right, I did not have spybot loaded, but I do now, and I did have adaware loaded and used it, but it did come after that too!
