    Hi all,

I've got to make the PC i'm using at the moment last 'til 09. It's a bit of an aging PC, I'll have owned it for 5 years in march.

    Specs:

    Microsft Windows XP Pro
    2.00 Ghz Pentium 4 socket 478
FIC VI31 MOBO (Cannot overclock on this)
    512MB PC2100 RAM
Nvidia Geforce MX 420 64mb GPU (Willing to overclock this)

I'd like to upgrade my PC for speedy performance and nice gameplay.

I have a budget of £200, so obviously I can't go out and buy a whole new system.

    Grateful for any sugestions.

I would also like to add that the PSU is 200w

I believe the reason nobody is responding is because, you are asking alot out of your pc. Its never going to be a serious gamer, you could upgrade the video card somewhat, the cpu maybe[without searching im not sure], the power supply is on the limit of having none, not sure what to reccomend. ed

if im correct you have approximately 370 US dollars to spend for upgrade? For speedy performance you can try upgrading your memory to 1 GB. Crucial and Kingston are excellent brands for gaming. Also a better video card might be better for you, but since im not good at upgrading equipment, maybe someone with more experience can help.

i dunno if your mobo)motherboard) supports it but if it does, upgrade your CPU. a 3.0ghz p4 is only about $90 USD (about 45 pounds?) More memory would help too, another 512mb would be good.

you're pretty much out of luck as far as video cards go; 200W wont really run anything decent (maybe a Nvidia 5 series card) If you built this yourself tho, u can upgrade the PSU but if not, you're outta luck chuck

Viper's right: upgrade to the fastest CPU the mobo can handle, and the video card has got to go! ;) There are great 256mb or even 512mb cards available for under $140US. And your power supply needs to be at LEAST 350w, preferably 450w or 500w (450w +/- $50US). The RAM can probably wait a little while as a good video card will lighten the load on the RAM somewhat, but then again, another 512mb is under $70US...... Some of the newer mass produced systems (EMach, Compaq, HP, etc...) have finally started using standard ATX power supplies. Be sure your case can handle std. ATX and isn't some whacky proprietary unit......

So since I didn't build this myself I should:

Go and buy a new case and PSU
    shove my MOBO in there
    Upgrade my CPU
    Upgrade my GPU
    Upgrade my RAM

I'm gonna have a new PC apart from the MOBO, lol.

Thanks everyone, I know a guy who can get discount for me over at ebuyer, so i'm gonna head over there.
