I can show you how to use a proxy so it would be hard for a website you visited to find your information, but the thing is, to get to that proxy in the first place, your information has to go through your ISP.

    Try this for an illustration:

    1. Hit windows key + r (or click Start --> Run)
    2. Type 'cmd' (without the quotes)
    3. Hit enter (or click 'OK')
    4. At the command prompt, type 'tracert www.majorgeeks.com' (without the quotes)
    5. Hit enter

After issuing this command, you will see a list of every router your information has to pass through to reach www.majorgeeks.com. As you can see, there is quite a few (it's the nature of the internet - it's simply lots of networks chained together), and it is possible for each one of those routers to log your traffic. So even if you are surfing through a proxy, you're not being all that stealthy. It's only networks you visit after connecting to the proxy that will see the proxy information, and only if you select the RIGHT proxy will your information not be forwarded through. There still needs to be some way of knowing where to send the data. Its sort of like expecting a letter to be mailed to you without including your mailing address. A proxy can make this information transparent to sites, but the proxy needs your info, at least. Also, the sites you visit need the proxy's information, so you're really counting on this proxy to not disclose your info if the site wanted to trace the visit.

If you still want to know how, post back, and I'll give you instructions. Include which browser you are using.
