whats Sm Bus Controller???

    hi just formated a freinds compaq presario 6000, after setting up windows xp and installing all the driver disked he had theres 1 thing in device managers i cant find drivers for. its called
    Sm Bus Controller
    any 1 have any ideas

    It stand for "Systems Management Bus". It's a two-wire bus used for communication with low-bandwidth devices on a motherboard.

    Most of the time if you install the Chipset drives it will install this automatically.

    so its some sort of drivers for the motherboard? so should be on compaq/hp site? and is it needed, does it slow the performance of the computer?

    It's not required to run Windows but I would install the drivers for it. Like I said previously if you reinstall the Chipset drivers it should install this driver with it.
