as some of you already know im building myself a mean gaming machine (of which i will bench mark and let you all know the results :p ) but what i hadnt thought about till now was antivirus software  not that much to worry about as it is a new system i can put OEM on there :p but as i already have NAV 2004 on my laptop and i know how it drains all the resourses and running windows alone takes ages to do anything i have used Panda on my works pc i like it but is it any good? i know its annoying always bringing up pop-ups when you click "dont remind me again" but if it works and doesnt drain it id b happy with it :) or theres mcafee which i dont really know nothing about

so do i just stick with NAV 2004 or 2005
or get Panda Titanium Antivirus 2005,
    Panda Platinum Internet Security 2005
what is the differance in them 2 anyways
    McAfee VirusScan Home v9

or if u know of any better let me know ;)

Norton is bloated. I would choose panda over it.
some of the litest antivirus programs are NOD32 and EZtrust, also Trend micro is pretty lite too.

    Good Luck in your quest...

    Hi!
    I use Dr. Web Antivirus.
I can say that there weren't any problems with it. And I've never revealed that it impede other processes. I just don't notice it! It's enough to enable autoupdate virus definitions and it do all work itself ;)

    Maybe try one of these.

    AVG http://www.majorgeeks.com/ download886.html
    Avast download http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1968.html

I prefer Avast, I swapped from using AVG.

Also try stripping all the unneccessary stuff out of XP (If you use XP) for a leaner, faster OS.

    Download and install nlite

I see you are in the UK. See if you can get a copy of PC Utilities, edition 52.

A 2 page article on how to install and run nlite.

PC utilities mag are in Macclesfield.
    www.livepublishing.co.uk and email
    "letters at pc-utilities.co.uk".
Email address slightly disguised. Substitute @ and delete at, and the spaces.

    Phone 01625 855086.

Well worth obtaining this back copy, IMHO, Bazza

Avast for me. Download from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1968.html , works just as well for me.

You have to register it to key a free licence key to install it, but that is no big deal. That is a big statement from me, as I usually do not install software that forces me to register it, before I use it.

It is free and you do not even know it is running in the background, except when you bootup, it ducks off to its homepage, and downloads,.and installs the virus data upgrades automatically, with no intervention required. Bazza
