What do you guys think? Is there a standard out there? I know most drives come with software but was package really makes owning a recorder worth it?

Could you clarify your question? Do you mean a DVD writer application? For what purposes (i.e., DVD video, DVD data...etc)? Do you mean ripping, transcoding, and compressing?

Whatever you mean? Stay away from Roxio's software. It's garbageware!
Ahead makes the Nero package which is pretty good.

Yep Nero is the way to go if its copying data to a DVD... if its ripping DVDs then thats a whole different ballgame.

I love Nero for all my burning needs actually. Although I've never tried to burn a DVD with it.
