   Hello,
   
   I am selling my laptop which has vista on it and I wanted to completely wipe the hard drive clean so any data would not be recoverable with any type of recovery software. After wiping I need to be able to reload the Vista software. Any advice on which type of formatting software I should use would be greatly helpful.
   
   I looked at dban but can't figure out if I would be able to reload Vista on afterwards.

   Yes DBAN is a good option for this, Steps for installing Vista HERE and would also once you have used DBAN recreate the main C: partition and format and you should be set to go.
   
   
   EDIT: AAlso Active@Killdisk would do the job also
