It really depends on what software programs that you consider "MUST HAVES".

If your "MUST HAVE" program is not available, in one of the 3 OS"s you mentioned, then it doesn't make any sense to switch.

Obviously Windows have the greatest installed base and the greatest choice of programs, freeware and $$$$.

OS X is is for Macs (as you would know) and Macs have a great name for Desktop Publishing and graphics type programs.

Linux depends on what flavour you choose and some require the old DOS type cryptic input, if you wish to go back to that type of input.

I have never used OS X or Linux so my comments are biased. Bazza

I've used both Linux and Windoz. Bazza covered the program issue - there are some things available for winwoz that you cannot get for Linux. Alot of the Linux stuff is available free; and a lot of it is good. However, if you are going to use Linux, you are going to have to learn to administer it - that means a lot of command line work.

Today linux has a number of good window systems and a lot of the administration can be done with gui's; but your still going to have to know a lot about command line commands.

I switched to Linux, took two Linux classes at the local community college to learn how to manage it. Got frustrated with lack of workable drivers for some of my hardware and loss of use of M$ money; finally gave up and went back to windows,

Unfortunately,I've forgotten a lot of what I learned about Linux management, or I'd go back to it now. I really hate microsoft, but unfortunately it's the main game in town.

Well, if the different linux distros were to work together, instead of split off in 1000's of directions, then it would be a great OS.

But, yes, I do use both. Only I split my work between each.
