What's This In My Startup?

I'm not experiencing any problems with my computer at all I just decided to check my startup processes (using msconfig) and I saw this one line that I couldn't identify... I'd appreciate it if you guys could tell me what it is since I'm not very knowledgable..... Thanks

scroll to the right a little bit and extend the description column so we can see the whole registry entry.

 

Its a blank entry in your run key.

You most likely have a key at:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run that has no data value, or value not set.

Delete these and reboot, and you will find it disappears.


Make sure you back up the key first.

okay guys... those unselected processes in my startup aren't running when i boot because i've had them unchecked for howlong..... only the checked off ones run during bootup, correct?

i know what all the other ones are i just wanted to know what that blank one was.... and Kodo, when i try to scroll over to the right it only moves about 1/4" and i can't see anything relevant (notice there is hardly any room to scroll over)

my actual startup folder is empty ( All Programs, Startup).... i'm only a semi-computer illiterate... when i download different programs i always double check to make sure they aren't running during bootup if they are unnecessary and just drain resources....

as far as Kazaa goes... i have Kazaa Lite (one without the spyware), with RIAA IP blocker, and i only download songs from albums that i already own and i don't share any songs... so i'm not too worried about that....

Adrynaline, as far as deleting that blank entry, i can do that but i don't know how to back up my registry.... wouldn't you say it's pretty safe to delete that entry without worrying about backing up the registry?

Its a registry entry with no data value, therefore, not being used for anything.

So nuke it

 

All you need to do is click inside the window area showing the entry lists and do Ctrl/+ (plus sign on your keyboard). That will expand the list completely. This also works in explorer folders in detail view.
