What's with this "Tabs system" on IE

Whenever I view a page, hotmail etc on IE "tabs" open up at the top. Whenever I go to exit a site it always asks "close all tabs?' I say no and they all close anyway. Also IE used to list all the sites on a session at the bottom of the screen and you could choose to "cascade your screens, but it doesn't do that anymore. If I close anything, it closes everything. How do I fix that? IE is becoming a real pain!!!!!!! :(

If you will notice, the "tab" you are viewing will be highlighted and an "x" will appear in the right portion of the tab.
If you want to close that IE window without closing any other IE window you have open, simply click on the "x".
Cascading windows were replaced by this tab system. It frees up space in your task bar (the blue bar that runs across the bottom of your screen).

You also always have the option of disabling Tabs in IE if you so wish:

Tools > Internet Options> General > Tabs "Settings" > Uncheck "Enable Tabbed Browsing"

If you prefer links to open in a new window, also look down on that same page and check "Open links in other programs in" "A new window"

I think every "improvement" IE makes screws up things worse. Thank you for answering my question. Now I can stop looking for the cascading windows

I'm not sure IE is to blame here. Nearly every current browser is tabbed base.

    :celebrateLaura,

Thanks I'm going to do that. I'm old and have no formal education on computer use so changes really confuse me!!!

You can still manually cascade your windows by right-clicking on your task bar and clicking on Cascade Windows. Not perfect or ideal, but can be done.

    lol....do what? (haha...nevermind, I saw your edit :))

Once you get accustomed to tabbed browsing you will never want to go back...
I understand you are used to cascading system, but if you think or not...
it takes up all your desktop space to have 5 windows cascaded...
    tabbed is the same thing,
only instead of having 5 cascaded windows...
you have ONE window with 5 tabs...
you can click on any one tab and pow you are there...
it is so much clearer to see ...
like if you have 4 windows open...
and each one is in a tab...
i can delete one if it's obsolete...

    with cascading...
it's hard to see what those other windows was... especially if your an old-timer like me.... gramma?
