This could also apply to XP and Vista, as well as Windows 7.
See thumbnail for 1 day's Statistics about Event Viewer from my W7 laptop.

To check your Event Viewer stats, in W7 go to:
    • Click on the "Orb",
    • In the Search box, type in eventvwr and press Enter.
    • Double click on Windows Logs, to see itemised stats.
    • Double click on each of the itemised stats to see individual occurences.

There will probably be 1000's of events listed in "Security", for example.

Optionally, you may scroll down through the lists of events in each heading to check out problems the Event Viewer may have found. This may help you in Troubleshooting problems.

You have the option of "Save and clear a log", or clearing the log without saving. (see additional thumbnail)

After you become confident in how your PC is running, you may simply clear the log, without saving the log.

Every so often it is worthwhile to review all listed events in each category, then clear them, just to confirm your PC is running OK.

It will also clear some Hard drive space by running Event Viewer regularly and clearing events listed.

Maybe you should "thumbnail" your stats in a reply here, for others to see how the events accumulate. ;)

How safe is it to remove event logs ?? and will it have any effect on performance with my machine ?? or are the logs made for troubleshooting??
i ask because there are a couple of errors/warnings in my viewer.but i think they're due to forced shutdowns and laggs.

The logs are to assist Troubleshooting. ;)
No troubles, no need to keep log info. IMO. :)

Error/warnings are usually synchro'd with your actions. :-D

Forced shutdowns /closures will/should create warnings. If you continue the same actions, day by day, you will continue to get the same errors/warnings, day by day.

I used to get them when eventvwr caught my forced shutdown of some programs when logging off the Net.

I use 2 Screen Capture programs.
One dates back to Windows 95 and is very hard to find the free version anymore. :(

The other I use is Gadwin PrintScreen available from http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/ Free to use. I use Ctrl-F12 as the activate key. Easy to find on my keyboard, but you can use any combination.

Not available through MG, unfortunately. :cry Gadwin makes it easy to create squares or rectangles of what you want to capture. I have also used it for years and am currently using it on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit OS.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

And, of course, if you don't wish to install an extra program, you can always use the old standard:

With the target screen on the display, press the "Prt Scr" (Print Screen) key. Then open MS Paint and press Paste or "Ctrl+V". You can then cut, crop, and convert as needed.

Irfanview to make screen prints is awesome and free!! The possibilities are endless. http://majorgeeks.com/IrfanView_d4253.html One can draw rectangles, wipe out sections, crop etc. Use .jpg to save as.

It can even play videos with it depending on the type and of course one could download their plugins .

Hm, I've been clearing them out for quite a while, last time probably a week or so ago.

Every Friday I do a computer maintenance running on demand scans, updates etc. The pic shows what I do every Friday, except CCleaner which I run every day.

Then on a monthly basis I do backups, event viewer, check if defragging is necessary etc. etc.

Alerts are in my calendar for the above but I know my routine. :-D

What the heck am I talking about.... you just asked about Event Viewer. :-D EDIT: Win XP
