Hello! I seem to have run into another problem beyond my scope of understanding. Whenever I try to open the My Videos folder, Windows Explorer unexpectedly closes with the customary warning dialog and then restarts. I have a great deal of video files in that folder but nothing is ever lost. I just can't browse the folder for more than a few seconds. No other folders do this and I can't link this behavior to any recent event. Has any one got any Ideas? Thank You.

My first guess would be that you have a single video that is causing the problem as Windows tries to create a thumbnail for it.

You could try a couple of things if you are using XP:
Turn off Thumbnails View for that folder.
If that doesn't work try removing media preview pane in folder view.

If one of these works to let you keep the window open for a while you could try to find the offending video by moving the most recent ones into a separate folder until you find the one causing the problem.

Hello and thank you very much sach2. Turning off thumbnails didn't work but turning off media preview solved the problem! I am so grateful! I will now begin the task of finding the culprit. Do I have to keep toggling media preview to see which vid is causing the prob? I have created a folder inside the My Videos folder and I intend to drag one at a time into the new folder until the prob is gone. Will that work?

That will work. I think a mathematician would say move half to the new folder, test by turning on preview. Rinse and Repeat. Just keep dividing the problem folder in half until you find the video.

Unfortunately, I never figured out how to fix the problem video. Even once it is isolated it will crash whichever folder it is in. If the video is important perhaps re-encoding might be an option.

Never good at math, Thanks for the common sense tip. Never good at that either.

I'm not good at math either. And moving between folders and keeping all the good ones together is confusing. I'm sure you'll get it eventually. :) I have a cold and can't quite wrap my mind around figuring out the "smart" way to do it.

    Good Luck!

Any questions on saving the video feel free to ask again. The funny thing is that the video will probably play fine but Explorer just can't handle it for some reason.
