Where Are You JOTS?

Joey, before I say what I want to, there's a little 9 year old beside me wanting to say something, so I'll let him say what he wants first

Dear joee,
I want to thankyou for sending me those cards and map and letter. I love them and I love you for beinng so nice to send me them. They are neat. Your freind Zach.

Zach actually wrote that and I didn't want to correct his spelling or anything. I wanted it to be in his words. You have a HUGE heart Joey and you'll never know how happy you made that little guy. He's telling all his friends that he has a friend in England, that's across the Atlantic Ocean! (that's what he tells his friends, because I already figured out where England was:-D) Thank-you so very much Joey for making a little boy so happy!

Now, here's how it started. I asked Zach to got out and get the mail for me. When he came back in he was holding this rather large envelope and had a rather bewildered look on his face. He said, Daddy I got a letter for me, but I don't know who 'Royal Post' is:-D I then knew who it was from! I looked at it and told him it was from England. With the same bewildered look, he said I don't know anyone in England. I just told him to open it and see what it was and who it was from. He opened the envelope ever so carefully and pulled out the postcards, letter and map. He then screamed, at the top of his lungs, Daddy, England cards!! I told him to read the letter and see who sent them. I helped him read his letter and told him that Joey Off The Streets sent them. He said, I like the name Joey, but he has a crazy last name:-D I explained that part to him!

Again, thank-you Joey for your kindness It meant a lot to my boy, and me.

 

It seems that our friend Joey is a softie where it really counts.

It was my pleasure. It's great that Zach has an interest. I'd like to thank your son for the message he posted. It is much appreciated. Please thank him from me. I wish him luck on his endeavour to collect a postcard from all 50 states. Is his collection almost complete?

LOL After Stubby helped me out with computer parts, I was telling friends on another site about the collection and they offered to do the same thing! :-D Can't remember now where they came in from, but I know there were several in addition to the ones I sent from Michigan.

Yeah Hrlow2, my wife painted an outline of the USA on his bedroom wall and he is trying to get at least one card from each state and put them on his map. BTW, my wife went overboard and his whole one wall is the USA. Now the sad part, he doesn't even have one from Mississippi yet:-o

Hey Sarge, to refresh your memory, he got cards from California, Colorado, Arizona, New York, (sorry Zdawg, I forgot about that one:-o) and, of course Michigan. Man, did he get a lot from Michigan!roflmao

 

We went to Wal-Mart sometime ago and as we were standing in line to check-out, Zach had to tell everyone in line about his friend in England with the funny last name (Off The Streets). I honestly did explain that that wasn't Joey's real name, but as far as my son's concerned...it IS!!:-D Sorry Joey, I DID try!!

As for Zach being buried in cards, you're probably right Hrlow2 and I can just hear the mailman cussing me out too:-D

As for the States he doesn't have, give me a few days. We're going to be taking down the cards he already has up so my wife can paint each state a different color and add the rivers, lakes, mountains, etc.

Thanks BooM, but we have 6 from California, but I truly do appreciate your offer. However, Minnesota is one state Zach doesn't have! You know, I just cannot believe the overwhelming response my Little Buddy has gotten about this. It just solidifies what I have been saying about MGs all a long...no one will ever find a forum like this anywhere! It amazes me actually. That such a diverse group of people from all over the world can get get along so well, well most of the time anyhow:-D Thanks again to all of you!

Do you need any from Idaho?

 

Well Augie, I'm afraid that my son's knowledge of Canada is rather limited! He was up there this Summer and all he remembers is that there were a lot of nice people with a huge waterfalls and a boat that takes you real close to the water and gets you soaked:-D I imagine he was referring to the 'Maid of the Mist!' Oh yeah, he remembered the nice lady that gave him a raincoat so he didn't get too wet! However, he said it didn't help much because he still got soaked:-D While he was there he picked up a ton of postcards from all around Canada that they sold in the gift shop, so he's got Canada pretty well covered. Thank-you Augie for the offer, I honestly do appreciate it a lot, but I think we have more cards from Canada than we do of the USA That's no joke either!!

 

Actually Mimsy, Idaho is one of the states he needs. Again, it's so hard to believe the response this kid is getting. I haven't told him about any of this, I just him want to find them in the mailbox with his name on them. Let's face it, a 9 year old doesn't get a whole lot of mail and when he finds something with his name on it, that just makes his day!

I figured that with all the help my son's getting, I think I'm going to start collecting Mercedes-Benz, who wants to help fulfill an old man's dream of owning at least 10 Mercedesroflmaoroflmao Actually, I only need 9 more!:-D

Hahaha @ waterfalls, that is a nice place. At least there he didn't get to meet our blackflies and skeeters.:-D One thing I found really exciting when I was around that age was to write to various embassies and get this humongous envelope which I devoured and dreamed about the place. This was in the early sixties so I don't know if they still do that but getting something that one doesn't expect still tops the list with someone answering you coming in a close second. You'll have the whole world in his room pretty soon!:cool

I'll echo that. But.......there's no way I deserve the credit for this. I stumbled on a post from Stubby to Sergeant Tibbs from a while ago. The Sarge and Stubby himself started this. All I did was extend what Beth started. Anyway, everybody here, irrespective of nationality, has a heart of gold. I knew the response would be terrific. Rock 'n' roll.

Granted, he'll learn about these other countries in school, but Joey, with the crazy last name, made it personal for Zach via the letter he wrote. England is no longer just a land mass to him. He can put a name to England which makes it more personal, I think. To Zach now, England is where his friend lives! Canada is where the nice lady lives that gave him a raincoat. I know I sometimes have trouble getting my point across, but I think you know what I mean. If you do, please explain it to me, because I lost myself somewhereroflmao

To be perfectly honest with all of you, when this project started, I knew we'd never be able to get a postcard from every state to go on his map. But now, due to the kindness and thoughtfulness of the people here at MGs we may just make it. Maybe not all the states, but a LOT more than if we tried this alone!
