Where Did It Go?

I recently switched from XP to Vista Ultimate. In the process, I lost something. You are familiar with the Sound Effects Manager in the Control Panel. Well, I am something of an audiophile, and there is an option that was in this when I had XP, but for some reason, they dropped it out of Vista.
It's the Realtek AC97 Audio Configuration Sound Effects Manager. In XP, in this thing there was an option called "custom' or "customized" I can't remember for sure. It is in the Environment Section, where you can choose all sorts of different listening environments for different music effects. But before when I had this there was also an option as I said, 'custom'. It would allow you to do many things to your audio. When you clicked on 'custom' up would pop up a box with various settings for things like 'room', 'HF', 'Roll Off', "Decay', "Decay HF', 'Reverb'. "Reverb Delay', 'Diffusion' 'Density', among other things. I used to like to monkey with these settings to experiment with my music. Now I don't have any of this in the Vista version. Everything else is exactly the same, except for the omission of this 'custom' option, which I VERY MUCH would like to get back. So I guess my question is, knowing what I am talking about, can I download this particular Sound Effects Manager, that has the 'custom' setting with all the things I mentioned, and replace it with the one I have now, that doesn't have the setting. I don't think it was particular to XP, but am not sure. Why would this particular component change with Vista?
So if I haven't confused you, and you know what I am talking about and what I need, I would appreciate your help in finding what I used to have, if it is possible. I really miss it, and want it back. If you have a download link, that would be greatly appreciated. I hope I have been clear...I did the best I could. Thank you.
PS If there is a similar freeware audio editor product available, I might be open to that, as well, although I prefer the Realtek AC97 Audio Configuration Sound Effects Manager, and its controls.
PPS Please do not suggest downloading the Vista drivers at the Realtek site, nor their product called '3D Soundback Beta', as I have already done both of these things. I simply want the 'old' Sound Effects Manager with the custom controls I mentioned, but it is not on the Realtek site, and I cannot find it anywhere on the Internet, despite hours of searching for it.

Have you looked to reinstall or really uninstall if it showing and installing a version of software supporting Vista?

Have you been to the manufacturer's website to see what downloads are offered for Vista? They may have a newer version of the program for use with Vista.

I bit of research tells me that some early versions of the Vista driver had the Sound Effects Manager (SEM), and some didn't. The drivers that had the SEM were typically available from motherboard vendors that used the RealTek AC97 codec. I've seen the number "6243" quite a bit too . . . I don't know if it's a version number, a release number or what, but maybe it will help....

(the wife is yellin' at me "time for dinner" so I gotta run LOL but I'll do some more poking around later if needed - GOOD LUCK!)

I think my best bet at this point would be to uninstall the Sound Effects Manager I presently have on my system, and then reinstall an OLDER version of the SEM, that contains this 'custom' option I want back so badly. In my mind, it HAS to be some older version of SEM or drivers for it that had the custom option as I had it before with XP. As I said, when I changed to Vista, the SEM also changed. Everything is exactly the same as the old one, except for the custom option to allow me to 'do' things to my music, etc. I don't think there are SEMs for XP, and ones for Vista, although I could be wrong. I would obviously not proceed with the uninstall until I had the older version of the SEM I want at the ready, to install. So we would need to locate, in advance, the older SEM that I want, ie. the one with the 'custom' option in the Environment section of it. That may not be easy, as the description for the older SEMs may or may not mention this. I hope so. Otherwise, I could just be reinstalling the same thing I have now.
Also, I want to make sure I do the uninstall of my current SEM correctly. This is how I assume you would do it...correct me if I am wrong, in any of the steps:
    1) Go to Device Manager
    2) Go to 'sound, video and game controllers'
    3) Click on that
    4) I will then see Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller
    5) Click on that
    6) Click on 'driver'
    7) Click on 'uninstall'
    8) A box comes up confirming the device uninstall
    9) There is something in this box that says: "Delete the driver software for this device". Do I put a checkmark in the box by this, or not?
    10) Click OK, then the SEM I assume uninstalls from my system

Then I would find another SEM to install, the one that "I want", with the custom option. As I said, that may be the hard part, but I am convinced it is out there somewhere, just need to find it. It may or may not be at the Realtek website. dlb-You say that some early versions of the Vista driver had the Sound Effects Manager and some didn't. How do I find these motherboard vendors that use the Realtek AC97 Codec? Could you please provide me with a couple links that look promising, and then please tell me what I should look for and download for my situation. By the way, here is my motherboard information. It may be of some help:
    1) Motherboard ID: 4/29/2005 K8M800-8237-6A7L1E19C-00
    2) Motherboard Name: ECS K8M800-M2
    3) Company Name: Elitegroup Computer Systems
    4) Chipset Name: VIA K8M800
    5) Chipset Vendor: VIA Technologies, Inc.

I hope that is all the info. you need. Thank you for the responses thus far, and helping me try to solve this somewhat frustrating problem.
