Excuse bad english typing fast as PC keeps crashing

    Not a spyware rquestion!!

    Porn files in:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\4DYNCTA3\ [1].htm

found after virus check found this in there: Virus:Exploit/DialogArg

Files dated (creation date) before PC taken to store and hard drive replaced. WTF?

Store must have installed 2nd hand hard drive, how could files be dated previous to date hard drive was installed?

    Answers on Postcard please.

Getting rid of them isn't the problem. In fact, once I had deleted the infected file I zipped all 4 porn filled folders up and left them there to shame the store guy with when I take the PC back. I'm just trying to figure out how files that were created on my hard drive supposedly before it was ever installed in a PC managed to get there. Unless I am misunderstanding the relevance of those dates.

Go into your network connections in safe mode and then make sure there aren't any programs that are dialing out. Then scan on your antivirus program and see if it tells you how to manual delete it. Then go and manual delete it and restart your computer.

No you are missing the point. I am not looking for advice on how to tackle these files I am trying to figure out if the store is somehow responsible for them being here. If the date created (as opposed to date modified) of the files is older than the date the hard drive was supposedly installed then that is significant isn't it? What I am trying to get to the bottom of is whether the hard drive they installed is 2nd hand or whether they have been negligent about where the browser has been and they have picked these up in the process.

When they replaced your drive, did they do a clean install, or did they clone your drive? I noticed in your other thread that you had a mysterious admin. acct. on your system, possibly placed by a trojan or virus. If they cloned your old drive, it may have been old files installed by the mystery user acct. If they did a clean install, they owe you an explanation, and your money back too, in my opinion, because none of that crap should have been on there after that. the date created is not necessarily when the file was installed on your drive

You could be on to something there. He offered to save stuff that was on my D and E drives and it'd make sense to have cloned for that. The fact the replacement drive is in a different bay to the original might explain this also. I'll ask him when I phone tomorrow. This doesn't make them any less at fault though I wouldd have thought. Even if it was there before a competent store should have done a thorough check for worms, trojans, etc etc shouldn't they? He knew the old drive was faulty.
