I tried to use Audacity to convert music to mp3 but it said I needed a lame_enc.dll file. I found one but I don't know where to put it. I tried putting in the windows folder, in Audacity folder but Audacity couldn't find it. So where do I put it? Things used to be so much easier in the old days of Win98 ... slower but easier. I have Vista. Anyway could someone help me out here so I can convert my music files?

    Thanks

You do not just download a DLL and put it into a folder; it needs to be properly registered in order to function. And there may be required companion files as well.

That has been this way since way before Windows 9x.

Not in this case with Audacity, it just needs iton the pc, and then you need to tell it were it is inside the program if you want to export to mp3's.

Wow! Colemanguy. Thank you for that link. It worked ... not at first because it still didn't recognize the file name. So, working on instinct, which normally doesn't make sense, I renamed the file with the same name. That did it. It recognized it. Wierd but true. So if anyone has trouble with that, just try it.

    Thank you so much
