Where do lost packages go?

I've always wondered this. On the 6th, I ordered some jewelry supplies and almost 3 weeks later, I emailed the company telling them I have not received my package and if there was anything they could do. Initially I was told it was (pretty much) my own fault that it was taking so long because I chose free shipping. rolleyes

I politely (maybe not so politely :-D) informed them that I've ordered from many places with "free shipping" and it's never taken 3 weeks for me to get my package. At that same time, I kept tabs on the tracking number which stopped updating after it said it reached my local post office on the 10th. It has never been delivered to this day.

So does anyone know where do those packages go? do they have some centralized location? I've heard stories to people stealing packages and stuff but I can't imagine who would want my jewelry making supplies. LOL
If they do get "found", do they ever get delivered?

I've watched that movie every year since I was a kid!! It's totally not Christmas if I don't watch that movie and Frosty the snowman! haha

Doesn't answer my question though. :p

Although most delivery employees are honest, there is far more theft in the USPS, UPS and FedEx than their respective officials care to admit.

While something like a PC or TV shipped in its original box is an obvious target to a thief, many thieves simply grab boxes at random. Like shoplifting, smaller boxes are easier to conceal if stolen from a sorting facility. Some may be essentially worthless; others may contain an iPhone or other easily resellable item.

This should also serve as a warning to people shipping packages this Holiday season: Do NOT leave outgoing gifts unattended on your doorstep for the postman or UPS to pick up! I had an outgoing Priority Mail package picked up by a thief at my front door before the mailman arrived a few weeks before Christmas.

The difference between incoming and outgoing packages is replacing them. If an incoming package is lost or stolen (especially if it was shipped insured), the seller will normally replace it. If a package is stolen off your doorstep before it is scanned at pickup, shipping insurance will not pay for it (even if you were given a tracking # when you purchased the postage online).

If you prepay and print a label online, you can skip the line at the Post Office and drop off USPS and UPS packages at any Office Depot for free.

Usually the main post office will have a lost packages bin or whatever for stuff that couldn't be delivered for whatever reason. You might be able to call your local post office and see if they can find it, but usually when stuff ends up in there it's because the labels fell off. Good luck!
