Where do you set Password Authentication in Thunderbird?

I installed the latest version of Thunderbird on XP, and when running the program, it doesn't ask for a password before checking for mail.

Where in can I set up that feature in Options or Account Settings?

 

When you first setup your email account you told thunderbird to remember you USERID and password; that would be why it doesn't ask when you open Thunderbird.

Tools -> Options

Advanced

Saved Passwords

View Saved Password

Highlight the the mailbox you want to remove the password for

Remove

Close

OK

the next time you log into Thunderbird it will ask for USERID and password.

Actually, believe it or not, I did not ask Thunderbird to remember userid and password. And that option was never presented to me.

When I looked in Options (previously) there were no saved passwords. The only password options there were the Master Password option. And there are no master passwords.

That's the reason for this initial post. After installing TBird, I thought that I should see a prompt for a password, but I saw none. Should I un-install and re-install?

 

Unistall Thundebird, open tho windows explorer navigate to:

NOTE: First backup your email and address book.

C:\Program FIles\C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird <--- Delete the entire directory

C:\Documents and Settings\<Your User Account>\Application Data\Thunderbird <--- Delete the entire directory

NOTE: Repeat the above for every user account.

Run regedit, navigate to the following keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla

delete any entry with Mozilla Thunderbird in the name.

Reboot, now install Thunderbird.

So whatever happened? I am having the same problem now with Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 running XP Pro.
