Where do you work?

  1. Hello :)

Just for a little topic to get to know a little more about each other - I done a search and didn't find this topic which is strange as it's a common one to see on most forums.

Just really a place to say a little bit about your job.

I am a Computer Services Support Technician at a local College - My job is currently part time at 18.5 hours a week as I got my job while I was still doing a corse at the college so now my course has finished I am going to try and get full time hours.

    <3 my job :)

Any one else care to share what they do for a living?

    Antony.

I'm 69 and retired from medical practice, but my current work is lowering (trying to, anyway) my handicap. It's hard work, but someone has to do it.

I'm in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (leader) at Glass Erectors, Inc. in Reynoldsville, PA. I say leader, because I'm the only one LOL. They tried moving me into sales and hiring someone else, then a second person, then a third person... They eventually asked if I was interested in drawing again, and I did re-take the job. When you're good, you're good.

  6. @ Gensuknives

Medical Practice - how very interesting - What did you do in the medical practice if you do not mind me asking.

    @Paxton

    Very cool ;)

Well, I WAS a truck driver for over 30 years, but was forced into retirement\disability for health problems. I had a triple by-pass and a spinal fusion. I miss the freedom of the open road and this may sound like I 'lost my marbles,' but I'm sort of glad it happened. I'm 59 years old and have a 9 year old son and now I have sooo much more time to spend with him. Which, to me, is THE most important job I could ever have!;) When my son is in school, I pass the time by flying and repairing RC helicopters and planes. My son loves to fly the planes, which he is pretty good at, but he doesn't like the helicopters because they are more difficult to handle.

I'm a stay at home mom with 13 :)eek) and 10 year old girls. So basically...a slave to their every whim. LOL

    Oh and:

I'm currently employed with that as my second job also. :-D I love golf. Sometimes it just doesn't love me.

I was a Pooty-Meister (OB-Gyn) in Houston. Now I live in a northern suburb on a 27 hole golf course. Lived in Steamboat Springs, CO. for 3 years after retiring, but moving the snow got to be a bore. (That, and having to putt indoors)

Im a network admin for a college. Admin servers and do helpdesk at one location, and remote admin servers at another. fun stuff...

  15. Which helpdesk do you use at the college you work?
We use Ambercat. Abit old fashioned really.

I use Spiceworks, but people here rarely use it for helpdesk. Theyll usually shoot me an email or a phone call. I actually like email or phone better anyway.

I'm currently drawing windows and doors that we'll be fabricating for the dept. of transportation soon. Here's a sample. The yellow that you see in this drawing are lines to represent the opening of the frame, they're "hidden" and won't print out when I print the sheet of elevations. I like to have them there to be able to dimension easier, I guess you'd have to know a little something about AutoCAD to understand that though. ;)

Sorry, I got my cursor in the screen shot. LOL

I'm a union stagehand (Local #26 of the IATSE), specializing in lighting and wardrobe, but also able to work in props, carpentry, and audio. I also am in my third term as an officer in my union local.

Where do I work? Depends on where they send me. My local's jurisdiction is all of West Michigan, but I also work through the Central Michigan and Detroit locals. :-D Below are some of the venues where I spend my time:
DeVos Place, within which you will find DeVos Performance Hall
    VanAndel Arena
Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University
    The Delta Plex
    The Grand Rapids Ballet Company
    Frederick Meijer Gardens
    The Orbit Room
    Forest Hills Fine Arts Center
Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College
Wharton Center and Breslin Center at Michigan State University
    Cobo Center
    Van Singel Fine Arts Center

Plus various and sundry churches, hotels, schools, fields, fairgrounds and wherever else someone might want to do a show, hold a corporate event, host a public speaker, have a campaign stop, or in general do something that might require a stage and some equipment.

*Sorry...I JUST had to put together a list of venues for something else, so I had them all right in front of me. :-D

Those darn windmills. LOL I'm kidding, I golfed for 20 years (by the time I was 23) and have not been out in almost 10 now. I use to be decent, can still put a ball down the range though.

I work in Second Level Tech Support for a computer upgrades company. I could name it, but then I won't be able to vent about work here, and I need to be able to do that to preserve my sanity. :)

We support RAM upgrades, USB flash drives, and the type of flash cards you put in cameras or phones. We also support some value-add software that comes with some of the flash drives. It's a weird kind of job.... I'm the one you get transferred to when the first person you talk to runs out of options and answers.

I used to be a mechanic at a Ford dealer, now I'm an Automotive Technician at a Ford dealer. Done that for 31 years. Very much like the technology advancements I've seen. It's made my job way more likeable.

In the summer, unemployment compensation is normal for me, so it didn't occur to me to say what I'm doing right this very minute, I just went with what I do when I'm working. I haven't had a day of work since June 6, but it's not a big deal, it's just summer in the entertainment industry. :)

  29. Oh ok :)

I want to take advantage of the training courses that can further my job title in the college, Micrsoft courses, networking courses etc. are all paid for by the college.
