Where does my SD memory card Card show up? I have a slot on my laptop to insert one and I wanted to use it to back up some data.
I thought it would just show up under my list of drives, but it's nowhere to be found. My Hard drive, flash drives and my DVD all show up on the list, but not the memory stick.
I tried rebooting after it was installed also to no avail.
I know it works because I use it in mt GPS unit to store data and it's fine. If I plug my GPS in via USB cable to the laptop it shows up and displays the files just fine.
I also tried reformatting it to use in the PC. No go.
    Any ideas would be appreciated?
    I have WIN XP Home.

I've read lots of problems with internal memory card readers not working. Your best bet would be to get a USB card reader and put the SD card in that.

As far as formatting an SD card, don't try and format it in windows. You put the card in the device it was used with (I have two cameras) and use the camera software to format the card.

  3. Does it read other cards? If not then it te reader itself. If it DOES read other cards then check the Device manager for yellow "?" marks. What kind of computers do you have? maybe a firmware upgrade? When You use a usb cord does XP read it automaticly or do you have a program to go with it?

Is it inserted all the way?

Is it SD or SDHC , not all readers are created equal.

Right under My Computer it is not there under "devices with removable storage"?

Like the previous poster asked - any errors in the device manager?

Right click My Computer select Manage, then click disk mangment in the left pane - is it there is the bottom window? scroll around, if it is getting a drive letter that is is use already it will not show up until you right click it and change the drive letter.
