Hi, I just installed win xp, everything went fine, but a member of the family (who knows who) was costumizing the pc and it changed the windows theme. Now it looks like win 98 and we can not get back the win xp theme. It is not in the "appearances and themes". Actually there is 2 themes, windows classic and windows xp and I tried already both and still the same as win 98.
How can I get it back?. Can I instal it again?.
    Any ideas?

    3 things come to mind...

    1. In Control Panel/Appearance and Themes/Taskbar and Start Menu, on the Start Menu tab, make sure Menu is checked, NOT Classic Start Menu.

    2. In Control Panel/Appearance and Themes/Display, (or just right-click the desktop & choose Properties), make sure Windows XP is chosen in both the Themes tab and in the Appearance tab.

    3. If all the above are set correctly, it's possible somebody started tweaking Windows Services and disabled Themes support there. Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services (not Component Services). Scroll down to Themes and double-click on it. Check out Startup Type; it should say Automatic. If it doesn't, change it to automatic, click Start just below that, and then see if you can set your theme back to WinXP style.

    Hi, ok .
( 1. In Control Panel/Appearance and Themes/Taskbar and Start Menu, on the Start Menu tab, make sure Menu is checked, NOT Classic Start Menu.)
    this is fine

I can not select windows xp in appearance tab( no option available), and I only have windows classic under the "windows and buttoms" .
