Where'd the printer driver go?

XP's auto-update kicked in, so I rebooted to install the updates and now the computer doesn't recognize the printer driver and says I have to reinstall. Did this happen to anyone else? Is there a way to re-access the thing without having to reinstall? If I do have to reinstall, should I uninstall the software that's in the computer first?

Just to be clear you are reinstalling the printer and printer only. this is a easy task, I'm not sure why they were kicked out. But reinstall the printer and see if that works if not then post back.
No do not uninstall anything in the computer. It may be as easy as going to the add prnter icon and letting windows detect it.

 

Thank you. I went ahead and ran Piriform's CCleaner and then Registry Booster, updated my Symantec and ran the virus check (no viruses found) and finally rebooted (again) and lo and behold the printer works fine now -- and I didn't have to reinstall. I still don't know what happened with the auto-update but am grateful that the situation has been resolved. One of those weird things that goes w/ XP, for a guess. Much angst! Much relief!

 

I'm glad it worked out and you didn't have to do a reinstall. I have no idea why it happened but the main point is you are up and running.
