Where've They Gone?

Here's the problem: I click on the Start button in Windows 7 HP SP1 and the standard menu appears. Next, I click on Documents. There's nothing there. There are no documents. Before there were lots of different documents.

My documents have not completely disappeared from my computer. If I run a search for documents I know the name of they are found.

My question: Why don't my documents appear where they should in Documents? I have not altered any settings.

Is there are solution to this problem?

 

Right click on the START orb. Click properties. Click START MENU tab and click customize. Scroll down to DOCUMENTS and check DISPLAY AS A LINK of DISPLAY AS A MENU.

I have followed your advice. It has partly solved my problem. I attach an image. This is a screen print of the contents of "Documents". You will note that there is a partially filled top line. Prior to the problem this top line was full as was the line below. There was a partially filled third line. Consequently, I am still don't know what happened and where the remaining items have gone.
