Which ANTI-Virus to Replace AVG for 98 SE System

let me first say...
i know i know..lol..I SHOULD have XP or Vista or what ever other new OS Microsoft is peddling nowdays

i guess i just love my old trusty Win 98 Box to much...
Im silly..lol..i have a few XP computers I just never use them..lol..
anyways...

i've been using AVG forever...
yeah im kinda Heart broken now..:cry
No more updates for me
yeah when i switched from Nortons to AVG YEARS AGO..
i never looked back..

Nortons made my computer SOOOO Slow..
and removing Nortons is another story..lol...
anyways..

Yeah in my opion AVG is The Best!!! anti-virus..
I will always recommend it to anyone...

THAT is COMPATABLE
WITH WINDOWS 98
and is is FREE-WARE

which Anti-virus software should i try here
that is second best to only AVG...

I've been satisfied with Avast! for a couple of years now, switching from AVG because AVG got a little bloated and buggy for me, but it is always a matter of personal preference. Try out the major brands out there to find the one that works best for you.

Hi mikessmith :wave, have you tried AVG 8.5? The old AVG is now outdated, and is not updating, but you can get AVG 8.5, and it is a freebie.....

Just a suggestion here. Since you obviously have an older computer, nothing wrong with that if it works well for you, you might consider not using a real time scanner since they hog resources you might not have...

here is the malware removal guide for win98. you could download the tools listed there and scan your computer every week or every other week, depending on how prone you are to getting malware.

There is few anti-virus programs that will work with windows 98.
Here is a few of them.

Avast
Clamwin
BitDefender
Panda

Personally out of this list I would go for avast as I have used all these programs. avast has got a good detection rate and not giving many false detections.

I done a reinstall of 98 on my cheapskate sister in law's compaq pressario couple of years ago just to save time, because she let her original Norton expire,never done any kind of junk file cleaning,or ever defragged,and it took several hours for the thing to load,and when she switched to cable from her aol dial-up,it wasn't any faster online either,well anyways after it updated i installed avast with Filseclab Personal Firewall http://www.majorgeeks.com/Filseclab_Personal_Firewall_Professional_Edition_d5184.html and Ccleaner.
and the combination works very nice.she also does routine maintenance on it ,
and now she's a camper

 

BitDefender Free Edition 10.0 works with windows 98 and windows ME system, I have checked the compatability and sure enough it works.
