Really depends on your drive, what type of burner do you have.

Sony branded 8x R+ media , look for made in japan on the side of the cakebox. These are Tayo Yuden Dvd's made for Sony. Verbatim R+ 16x media made in Tawain. The Tayo Yuden Dvds are by far the best when it comes to Quality scans after burning a dvd. The Verbatim are good also if you want to burn at 12x for good quality.Just do not buy Memorex branded media because you nrver know who whill manufacture them because Memorex outsources it's media production to who ever is cheapest at the time they need media. The Sony R- media and 16x R-, and R+ media are decent but do not give the Quality scans of the Tayo yuden that is the Sony 8x R+ media.

You can use nero Cd dvd speed tool to scan your media after it is burned to tell the quality of the media. You can google it to download if you do not have nero. There are two types of Errors to look out for PI errors and PiF errors. They is another site that explains these quality scans in detail along with other factors in media burning, I am a member there very cool site.

Thanks for your help jamcgriff, what is the difference between 16X 12X 8X and what is ( R- and R+ ) the minus and plus are getting me confused, remember I'm new to burning. I think your telling me 8X by Sony is the best one for me.
I have all the tools I need to burn I think, also I have been reading alot on the net,Mr Bass.org is a good site to learn. I'll try my first this weekend.

The R+ and R- are two different kinds of Dvd disks, with newer home dvd players it really does not matter which one you use now except in the case with some Liteon dvd burners. I think you will be fine with either but the R+ 8x sony's are the best I have found that you can buy in a retail store. The difference in the speed the data that is burned on the disk is the 8x, 12x, 16x some disks and burner combinations it is different to what speed equals the best quality. That is what Quality scans will tell you. The 810a is a rebaged Benq 1640 which is a very good drive. For first starting off the best disk to get whould be the sony 8x R+ media but you have to check for the made in japan label on the side of the cakebox this will ensure you will get tayo yuden media, or if you want to order online that is another option. I usually wait till the son'y go on sale for 14.99 for 50pk an stock up . if you cannot find any on sale the verbatim 16x are also good media usually on sale for 14.99 for 50 pk. If you wan to order online I can give you some sites that sell good media but sometimes what they charge for shipping usually is more than getting them at a retail store on sale.

    This is relevant.

I had an issue with a Memorex DVD+R disc that burned but would not play-- I am testing the other 24 in the package.

I use the cheapest I can get a hold of. :D

Only ones that have given my trouble are 'Laser + R, 8x 4.7gb.

They play alright in the computer, on a stand alone DVD player but the playstation2 refuses to see them.
