Which CPU to get?

Hey, the cpu on my computer burned out, and I am looking to get a better mobo so I can get a faster cpu with it. I have the mobo picked out, and it's a choice of 1 of 2 cpu's. One is $69 the other $71 so the price isn't a factor, I just want to know which is better.

One cpu is a sempron 2800, running at 2.0ghz, with 256kb L2 cache. The other is an Athlon XP 2500, running at 1.83ghz, barton core, with 512kb L2 cache. Both have 333mhz fsb.

I'd guess the athlon is probably better with the 2x larger cache although it is slower, and I am leaning toward getting that, but I'd like other people's opinions on which would run faster. I don't overwork my computer real often, but I do do some flight simming which is hard on it, so the athlon xp I'm sure is also best for that.

From the looks of things, you are getting a socket A motherboard.

Sempron is like the celeron CPU.

I'd go for the full XP CPU, and skip the sempron. The sempron will have lesser cache, which is a big thing, in the cpu arena.

A 3400 Socket 754 sempron is slower than a Socket 754 3200+ cpu (non-sempron).

That extra cache makes up quite a bit.

Thanks everyone. I probably would have gone with the athlon xp if no one had responded anyways. And, to be able to get the athlon for cheaper than the semprons is hard to beat. I'll be going for the athlon xp. Thanks again.

Clock cycles have nothing to do with it. Its the cache difference.
