Which Free antivirus has autoprotect?

i like the autoprotect function of norton - how it scans all disks, info coming in, etc - but MAN what a resource hog . . . which free program does this?

AVG 7.2 is what i use, it cover incoming and outgoing mail. You will need to look at it to be sure, but I have never had trouble with it except when the Pope died trying to get the downloads.

 

hmmm - i don't want to get into a "which progam is best" discussion - god knows if i search this forum there's enough of that - but scanning is half of what makes a good program from my standpoint . . . 24-hour protection that norton gives me is the other half -

kinda looking for what spywareblaster is to spyware for antivirus - minus the resources going the way of the dodo with norton

course the thing that i like about norton is probably EXACTLY what hogs the resources . . . hmmm

any thoughts on a FREE comparable solution to Norton AV in this autoprotect respect?

 

Any and every Antivirus program has autoprotect.

It would be useless if it didn't. I don't know of a single antivirus program that doesn't have it.

As far as free, try AVG or Avast.

No problems, just make sure whichever one you use you keep AutoProtect on, and either enable Automatic LiveUpdates or keep it manually updated.

 

The free version of Bitdefender doesn't and eScan free (Kaspersky clone) doesn't either. They are on denmand scanners only, this makes them ideal backup scanners. Since you never want to have 2 AV's real-time monitors running at the same time.
