Which graphics card?

Guys and gals....hello...I trust you are all well.


I have just bought the game Farcry and with my setup it's struggling on certain sections of the game....for those familiar with the game...it first started to struggle inside the carrier.

I run an AMD Athlon 2400 XP with 768mb ram and an NVidia 5600 128mb graphics card.

This is my first proper PC game and I love it so much that I simply must have it running smoothly, with my current setup....which would be the best card to buy for £100 sterling and would buying such a priced card (256mb of course) would that enable me to play the game without the lag that I'm experiencing now?

Any help would be very much appreciated as I have the money now and wish to order one as soon as possible. Many thanks.

256mb cards are no faster than 128mb ones.

Games at the moment cannot use all that memory. That may change in the near future, so it's up to you.

For the chip, I would suggest an nVidia 6600 GT.

They can play any game on the market currently, and are priced well.

Thanks for the advice guys, decided on a Gigabyte GV-N66256DP 256Mb. Looks like a good spec and as long as it allows me to play Farcry at a good rate...I'm happy.

 

Go for the 6600 GT like the others said. It will give you better performance than any regular 6600 card (with or without 256Mb).

 

That isn't a GT version. That will not perform as well as a GT will.
