ok i'll get right down to it. I've tried norton, mcaffee, and trend micro pccillin, all three do great for about two months then start wiggin out on me. norton and mcafee are so resource heavy that they bog my computer down. and pccillin, while not as resource heavy, doesn't seem to get the job done and annoys me by blocking sites like banks and creditcards so i can't get on to check my accounts! I've had it with them and am looking for a new internet security program. so which is better?

    Cosmi- internet protection pack

    or Panda- Internet security 2007

or anti cybercrime 2007 personal edition

also if you know a better program than either of these please list that one.

If you're looking for a suite, I'm not really sure. As far as individual program protection goes, I use NOD32 and Ewido (now AVG 7..5). Work great together with not a lot of resource usage.

AVG is really quite good for home users. However among antivirus software I guess Avast to be the best.

You are right..Norton almost shuts you down
McAfee, is very unfriendly, always bothering you to do something, but found some bugs on my PC that CA Security, and Ewido 7.5 did not.
I liked the AVG before it expired on JAn15th, I deletd it and tried the new Ewido 7.5..I just don't think it is finding the bad guys.

Browse CNET.com they have a recent study of the programs mentioned here.

    I just installed PC-Cillin '07. It's great, the best I've ever used.

There are several GREAT antivirus apps that are free and not total resource hogs like Norton/McAffee.... try AntiVir, Comodo (AV & firewall), AVG, Avast, etc, etc, etc.... simply check the AntiVirus section right here at 'The Geeks'.

I've been using PC-cillin Internet Security through versions 2005, 2006, and 2007 and haven't seen that problem. Those versions don't block access to the site; they block transmissions of specific data (like credit card and account numbers) that you have identified. Those versions also don't block the data transmission when visiting secure sites (i.e., URLs that start with https://...). The current version also has a feature that allows you to lift a block for the specific occasion.

I occasionally second-guess any scanner I use with an on-line scanner, and have not seen any evidence that PC-cillin Internet Security wasn't performing adequately.

So, my guess is that you had a configuration issue of some kind. Unfortunately, no AV product or firewall is genuinely easy to configure, though some are more "intuitive" than others. Perhaps configuration would be easy if we all used our computers in exactly the same way. But that ain't gonna happen, so AV products and firewalls have to be flexible. Flexible means options; options have to be configured. An AV product or firewall that has no options may work for some, but they won't work for everybody. You can't have it both ways.

However, I'll grant you that Trend Micro's e-mail tech support is nearly as bad as Symantec's, so if they didn't help you sort it out -- well, that I can understand.

I can't speak for any of the above -- but you might try some of these sites for some useful information:

In another post, you said, "I have no idea why I couldn't get an answer on whether or not panda was good when I asked about it here at major geeks a few days ago." I assume that you were referring to the post that started this thread.

Another time, you might want to make your title a little more specific. Some who had excellent information to offer might have gone right by it because it didn't indicate your interest in AV software as opposed to some other class of software. Others will have wasted time on your post because they had to go into it to find it dealt with an issue in which they had no interest. When I'm short of time, I usually skip posts with overly-generic titles. Sometimes I get back to check them, sometimes I don't. If your post had been titled "Which is the better AV package?", you might have had the above information a week ago or more.
