I have the option of these two graphics cards and I am curious as to which is better.

    256Mb Radeon HD2600XT or the Radeon HD 4850 512MB DDR3 PCIe.

    Thanks for the information.

Absolutely no comparison 4850 is superior.

Is it a decent card? I will be using it mainly for gaming and it is the the best card my motherboard will support.

I would agree the 4850 is the better card of the two, but to answer your question you will need to tell us your PC specs as in what motherboard etc?

review of the Ati 4850 series http://www.guru3d.com/article/amd-ati-radeon-hd-4850-review-force-3d--powercolor/

as for better, if your PSU is powerful enough and motherboard supports PCIe then best cards at present are the Ati 4870x2 and the Nvidia GTX 280 series

As I do not have the system yet I had to rely on Dell for answers so here are the specs:

    1. Intel IcH9 and Intel 633 Mother board and chipset
    2. Power Supply is 115-230 VAC Voltage Range, 300 watts
    3. Intel Core2 processor Q9400 (2.66Ghz 1333FSB) w/Quad Core Technology and 6MB cache
    4. 4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz
    5. 500GB Serial ATA II Hard Drive(7200RPM)
    6. 256MB Radeon HD 2600 XT or the Radeon HD 4850 512MB DDR3 PCIe or possibly one better if it will take it.

    Thanks for the help!!

I assume that both of the aforementioned graphics cards will work with Doom3 and Quake 4 with limited or no lag involved. Is this assumption correct? I am leaning towards the second one and will probably have to get some assistance with installation, from you people of course. Any ideas of the capabilities of these cards?

Cannot edit for some reason, keeps locking up. What would I have to change/add in order to get the GTX280 graphics card on this system? thank you for the assistance.

Just making sure this did not get lost in the shuffle. I am really curious if my system will support the GTX280 card. Any answers are welcome. Thank you very much.
