I am going to be upgrading my computer from 2GB of RAM to 4GB of RAM. I am wondering if it is better to have 4 x 1GB or 2 x 2GB? Also, what RAM do you guys recommend for gaming?

For what will you use so much RAM?
    Do you have 64-bit OS?
My favorite is Corsair.I know that this is TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much of RAM,I will suggest to leave it on 2GB and spend the rest of the money for something else you need for your comp.
If you are hard core gamer you will know that you'll never use this amount of memory 100%.Even 3gb is too much.

I am running Windows XP Media Center. I am using this machine as a gaming machine. I am technically at about 2.5 GBs of RAM currently but would like to upgrade to 4. I am also running an nVidia 9800 currently and am wondering what the best size power supply would be to use with that device?

I would recommend 4x1GB sticks, I'm no expert on the subject though.

I would suggest the best RAM your system supports for gaming :-D

    e.g: mine AMD 9750 2.4GHz x4 supports DDR2 1066MHz

    Go for it :cool

    Hope this helped.

I guess the wise thing to do would be to only go up to 3.5? o_0

If you go for 4gb xp recognize only 3.5.
If you go for 3gb you lose dual channel.
    It's your choice.

Well since you already have 2GB there's really no point in getting the 2GB sticks as that's more expensive than 1GB sticks and then what will you do with your original memory. I am not a gamer but it won't make a noticeable difference in whatever you get, that's for benchmarking bragging rights IMO. Spend the money on a better video card instead, you'll have more return on the investment.:)

I'm currently running two 9800GT's happily on an Antec Earthwatts 500, which I'll be upgrading soon as that can't last too long. Depends on what else you have in extra hardware though I'm pretty sure you can run one 9800 easily on that. As always with power supplies, the more watts the better for the long term and buying a quality PSU as one doesn't want to fry a $100 card or more with a $20 PSU.;)

Depends how many RAM slots your moherboard has, but go for 2x2gb dual channel ;)

But remember you would need to have a 64bit version of windows.
If not then just buy another 1GB stick if you have spare ram slots, so then you will have 3GB which is plenty

If you want to go to 3GB but keep dual channel, then install 2x 1GB and 2x 512MB. And since no one else has mentioned it yet: If you decide to go for 2x 2GB, make sure your motherboard can use 2GB modules!
