Just realised I spelt 'worst' 2 different ways, ah well. Yeh I agree about not having protection for all of it.

    Yep. ;)

As to the "worst" - that would depend on the specific infection, and how many, and for how long. It's like saying "What is the 'worst' disease in humans?" Depends on a multitude of other factors.

The worse part I would say is having the malware (short for Malicious Software) infections ;)

Really, I think "Rootkits" are the main threats today.

I know that Spyware and Adware aren't the worst for your machine, but, since everyone and their dog knows that Viruses, etc are the worst, they all get Anti-Virus protection, but fail to protect themselves against Spyware and Adware, and then download things like Weather Bug or what not, and wonder why their computer acts so weird and runs so slow. It's like getting all your immune shots, and then not drinking your orange juice, and getting strep throat all the time.
So, my money is on the Spyware/Adware group, because they seem to "fly under the radar" so to speak, and infect a lot more people.
    What do you guys think?

    probably malware.

My idiot dad has a firewall and spyware protection but no antivirus, he says they don't work and they are useless and just slow down your computer. i have AVG on my PC

Malware is Spyware/Adware, malware is a combination of anything malicious.

As I said before, I think the ones to be concerned about is the "Rootkit", Spyware/Adware infections can be cleaned up with a few programs (SpySweeper, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D) with no problem usually, however a "rootkit" infection is a little bit harder to remove because they are hidden so well. A rootkit just like a trojan has the ability to steal personsal information such as passwords, bank account numbers, etc; so they can be really bad.

Asking what the worst is, is like asking what the worst car accident is.

It's subjective, and as Phantom pointed out, it depends on many factors.

I don't mind dialers as much, at least you get something in return. :)

Since I know of no spyware, malware, adware or underwear that installs itself without some sort of user interaction (including site surfing), nothing is a threat unless the user isn't prepared for it. ;)

My underwear uses a batch file.

No user input is required, it's automated.

Aren't all 40 year olds living with their mother pampered?

I almost felt sorry for you, until I realised you have a better job (or a job) than me, probably more money than me, and a female that is actually willing to live with you.

    It's all my mothers fault.

My brother moved out of home when he was just over 14.

He now owns his own home (worth a lot of money), as well as various cars and Harleys, and is very good with money and responsibility.

Learning the hard way and at an early age gives you a huge advantage when you're older.

Yes it does....she was the only parent I knew as my dad died when I was 5, and I think she did a terrific job of getting me ready to face the world :)

That's sad, not having a father while you're growing up. Lucky you had a strong mother though.

    God bless mothers!
