reading the instructions on understanding, cleaning, and preventing spyware. it says to remove microsoft virtual machine and install sun java. when i try to run the uninstall command it warns that i will not be able to download files from the internet. so if i uninstall the java, will i be able to then download the sun java from the internet? the instructions later say to test for java virtual machine (jvm). is that different from the microsoft java virtual machine?

very confused. so are microsoft java, sun java, microsoft java vm, and sun java vm all different? what about javascript...do i need that?

i have java 2 platform se 5, and j2se runtime envirnoment on my computer right now.

what should i have on my computer, and what is the best order to get there?

    thanks.

    Download:
    Java Runtime 6

Now uninstall your old Java and reboot, then install the new java.

What issues are you having? Are you doing the instructions in the Read and Run First sticky?

hi, im referring to the instructions in the sticky: understanding, cleaning, and preventing spyware.

instructions say to remove java then install new from website. when i try to uninstall java, it warns me that if i do, i wont be able to download files off the internet. so then how will i be able to download the new java?

"java" has too many meanings. do i want to get rid of microsoft java and get sun java? is java virtual machine part of java or separate item? do i want javascript? my computer says i have java 2 platform se 5, and j2se runtime envirnoment. are those the good ones or the bad ones?

I have moved your thread to the software forum where others can chime in with their answers. I don't know why you can not download the latest version that I linked you to and once installed, remove your old versions.

What slang? I thought I was being rather clear. I told you to download the latest version of Java ( straight to your desktop would be fine), use add/remove programs to uninstall all your old versions of Java ( java 2 platform se 5, and j2se runtime envirnoment ) and then after a reboot, just install the new one by double clicking it. That is all I have said.

You didn't answer my questions thought.
Are you following the suggestions in the How to Protect yourself from malware! thread?
