    hello,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but I am looking for some advice regarding laptops. I need a laptop to run Second Life, Photoshop/Gimp and for watching movies. I know laptops arent ideal for this but this is my only option as I need it to be portable. I know nothing about computer specs so I'm having real difficulty choosing.
I have a limited choice of laptops available to me and have listed them below. Could anyone advise me which of these would be most successful for the job please. I do not care about display size. I do care about graphics and sound.

    Samsung Red R780v

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The selections you have here are too varied to judge apples-to-apples.

I would suggest going to neweggs site and use their search tool to narrow down what you want by the specifications, then you can make price comparisons.

Toshiba L670d - about a year old, I think, now.
Nice big screen - 64 bit w7 will give ample extra ram for graphics use.
    Only 2 usb ports
Battery life complained about- but if intensive graphics used, I would think that depends on user
I have used , and rebuilt many Toshiba's, and from reviews its mixed feelings- most really get on with this model, and a couple of video/photo addicts seem to like this one.
Usual things that are against it, are the flimsyness of the lids (a lot of Toshiba's felt like that to me, although I do loke them.
Otherwise Toshiba's are generally a good buy- medium priced, I would say.

I have found Acers to appear more solidly built, this one has 3 usb ports, screen size of 15.6 is o.k, but from reviews, I would not , personally choose this for video, and photo work , after reading some reviews

    greengeek,
I have a 17.3 HP Pavilion dv7, intel Core 1-5-430M processor, 2.26GHz with turbo boost up to 2.53GHz Laptop.
640GB(320 x2-7200RPM)Dual HD, LightScribe DVD, Webcam, 3 slots, card slots
All for $350.00 at Sams Club.
Purchased a return to stock item.
The only drawback is that it is heavy so if you are taking it back and forth to school or work it is quite a load.
Keep us posted as to what you finally end up with.
    Have a great day!

Thanks everyone, there are some really helpful comments there. I've had a Toshiba before and I really liked it. I have a Sony Vaio at the moment and I hate it, it's a VPCEB1MOE and the graphics are just useless.

I dont have to carry the laptop around much, I just need it to be portable around the house, battery life isnt a huge issue for me.

If anyone else has anything to add I'm still listening...More advice on the specific computers listed would be great!
