Neither. Far prefer Canon's products. Digital zoom isn't worth :crap - you will be seriously disappointed in picture quality using that kind of zoom. Get something in your budget with an optical zoom. Even if it isn't 5x it will be far superior to the digital zoom.

Much, much, much hatred for Kodak's products.
    Can't comment on Samsung.

Everyone goes for Megapixel and negates lens size, the size of the lens on that things tiny it'll really hamper you in low light conditions and make taking photos without the flash hard,I'm no expert when it comes to cameras but I hear canon do awsome lenses even if the megapixel is below 5mp,if ya want all the bells and whistles though I have to say get the best SONY one you can afford,I like reading the manuals though :D

I agree with Rikky, Sony are great, BUT often they need specialist battery packs, so you cannot use regular off-the-shelf if your battery goes flat and you don;t have a spare. Also their memory media is Sony specific and costs a lot more than regular ones that fit most other cameras.

I bought 2 Digis in the last 5 years. From my experience, the Olympus was excellent, and the Nikon is garbage.

I am beginning to think that a good digi is a luck of the draw.

I don't know anything about the Samsung...and I have heard that Fuji and Cannon are the top of the market!!

However...I have a Kodak EasyShare CX7430 and I LOVE it...especially for the dollar I paid for it!!!!!!!!!! It is a couple years old and they have changed a bit and have more features, but all in all...It is great!!!! It takes video (which should capture no less than 30fps!!), and audio and about anything else that your average Joe Blow would want for taking pictures, as long as he isn't trying to get a job shooting for Life Magazine's Pictures of the Year!!!! Otherwise...I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, and it even impressed my sister (who is an avid photographer) as far as point and shoot cameras go, so she went and bought one herself, and also is quite fond of it!!!!

Here is a pic of my camera, which is a couple, three years old, but I still love it!!

On top of all that...it uses a standard AA battery!! Granted...you want to use good ones, like the Energizer Lithium batteries...especially if you will be taking a lot of video!! And when you are on a trip or away from the house or hotel room....you'll be estatic that you can just run into Walgreens and get new batteries for your camera!!

    Just my 2 cents!!

    Good luck!!

i have a fuji a400 (budget) and f700 (high end) and both work really really well for the money i have paid. i have worked with the canon powershot a400 and was also pretty pleased, i have had bad experiences with samsung eg very poor picture quality in low light conditions.
if you havent purchased the camera already i would seriously reccomend checking this site out and go to the buynig guide so you can compare the cameras side by side

Like everyone else here is my two cents worth....before buying I'd check how the company handles their warranties. Where I live extended warranties mean nothing, usually not worth the extra money. I purchased a high end Canon for my son for X-Mas last year and within a month it didn't work. Canon said it was "water damage". The camera hadn't been outside and there was no way the damage they say had been done could have been done in that short period of time. Of course "water damage" is not covered under any warranty. Wasted my money there. I also have owed the Kodak camera mentioned below. Hub uses it for fishing pics. It's been dropped in the river a few times and still keeps working. :)

I'd just check any "consumer" reviews you can find online for the product you are intending to purchase. And, I'd check more than one website.
