Purchased new computer. The OS is Windows 8.1. I discovered today that there are 32 and 64 bit versions. I'd assumed 8.1 would only be 64 bit. I'm complete Windows 8.1 novice. How do I discover whether I've got a 32 or 64 bit version?

You know what the word "***-u-me" does. ;)

I'm running 32-bit 8.1 on my Dell Precision M70. It runs very well.

Both versions have identical functionality. Which to use depends on how much memory your system has, as 32 bit is limited to 4GB (2^32 = 4,294,967,296). I have 32 bit on an older 4GB system and it's just great, better than the 64 bit on my 4GB much newer laptop, and 64 bit on my 'main' 8GB PC. 64 bit uses more memory and RAM than 32 bit and my perception is that it is also a tad slower.

    It's a 64 bit system with 8 GB.
