Which ports to open?

My Linksys was giving my problems, so I picked up a Belkin wired/wireless instead.

Seems to be working fine, except that I'm having trouble in IRC. I can connect, but then when I try to /join a channel, I get

* [10053] Software caused connection abort
-
* Disconnected

Similar situation at Jmeeting.com. I've asked the techs there (using my Linksys), and they said to open ports 6066-6069 and 6086 for their server (JAVA and IRC). I did this, and it worked fine for a day or two, but now the errors.

Similar issues with Yahoo Messenger, MySpace IM, and MSN Messenger. They'll connect, stay up for a bit, go down, then reconnect....

I've tried shutting down ZoneAlarm and the router's firewall, but no luck.

Any ideas?

 

IRC uses ports 6660 ~ 6669 not 6066 ~ 6069

Make sure you don't just open the ports up. You want to port or forward them to the internal IP machine running the program.

 

Forwarding those ports to my IP did no good. Still having issues with everything but MyspaceIM... Time to trade in my Belkin router for a Netgear?

 

Does the same problems occur if your hooked directly to the net, bypassing your router? That will determine if its a router issue or a local pc issue.

 

I've been running everything straight from the modem to my computer for about an hour now, and everything seems to be running smoothly.

I'm using a Belkin Wireless G, Model F5D7230-4 version 7.

 

I had massive trouble with two of those particular model routers, first bought one off newegg, and then the rma had the same issues. Particularly i would recommend replacing it.
