Which version of Media Player Classic to install?

I use MPC-HC with the Lav Filters and madVR renderer to give me the best quality and performance using my GPU

Now I am about to format and am wondering...I have 2 choices


1) Choice 1: MPC-HC v1.6.0.4014 which as not been updated since 30-Jan-2012 and I wonder, with so many BETAs of MPC-HC out since then, when the heck are they going to update the latest stable build version?


2) Choice 2: Install it from HERE, this site seems to update MPC-HC daily and I am not sure if these are stable builds or beta because they don't say they are beta but the thing is, it is time consuming to keep up with the updates as they update MPC-HC everyday!

Anyone could shed some light on the above ?

I use MPC but don't really care what the version or build number is. I use it to play music and watch videos. It doesn't connect to the Internet like the current versions of MP so IMO, as long as it's working, it ain't broke so it doesn't need fixing.

The one I am currently using is from an old Codec Pack. Build 1.2.929.0 circa 2008.

I think people could drive themselves nuts trying to have the newest builds of all of their software all the time and could in fact create problems for themselves in doing so through the bugs that are often found in daily builds.

As another example, I run three Linux webservers. I replace them every year or two with a new build but once I build them and they are running stable, they don't get any updates until they get replaced. Every time I leave them setup for auto updates or even do manual updates, I experience problems that cause down time.
