Intel E6850 Core 2 Duo w/ Intel DQ350J0E board and used mainly for games.
For video I am considering either:
    A. 1 EVGA 8800 GTS-SC card
    --or--
    B. 2 EVGA 8600 GTS-SC cards in SLI mode

What is your opinion/pick and why???

    hotrodracer thanks ya... :confused

It all depends on what u want and what's cheaper!

first: Energy usage, two 8600's will use up more energy than 1 8800GTS
second: one 8800GTS is faster than two 8600GTS's.

    so I'd go for 8800GTS.

Also, look here for some test results: http://xtreview.com/review202.htm

    I'm sure you've seen enough ;)

Ol hotrod usually buys from TigerDirect to save Calif sales taxes which I cannot escape when buying from either Zipzoom or NewEgg. Also I buy from Synnex and other distr's depending on stock and overall price including shipping...

Thanks to those who have responded... :cool

def get the 8800GTS over the 8600GTS SLI. The performance wont be that different AND you can always add another 8800GTS when you need to (or want to lol) Just make sure your PSU is up to the task of handling one or more of those bad boys. Also, are you looking at the 320mb or the 640mb version of the 8800GTS?

    No, don't get either.

Get a 8800GT. Why? Cheaper than a GTS but out performs it...obviously out performs the 8600GTS version. It generates less heat then both and also uses less power than the 8800GTS. I just got mine in today, amazing card. :D

    4000 3d Mark increase from my previous x2 8600GT XXX in SLI. (Was getting 6000 3d Marks, now I get 10000+ in 3dMark 06)

Hehe, haven't been checking around much huh? Yeah, they just came out on the 30th I think. All the benchies show they out perform the 8800GTS soundly. Use less power and produce a lot less heat. PCIe 2.0 is fully backwards compatible though, just so everyone knows.
