Im buying a 2nd vid card for my brothers system, the thing is that im really stuck on which one to buy.

On one hand the 6800 has 128mb ddr3 and you can unlock it to 16pipe lines; for about 220$

On the other side the x800 has 256mb ddr (3?). But unlocking it requires flashing the bios which im not willing to do [unless theres a softmod somewhere for it]. The price for the x800 256mb is 250$.

    Which one to get?

The reviews I read were dead tie ins; if you can prove that the 6800 is "way better" I'll agree; not to mention that the x800 has 128mb more.

If this was the reason I'd be getting a 5200/9200

    your point being?
you asked for my opinion and I gave it to you:)
you really can't go wrong with either card, so I'd get the cheaper one and use the $30 for something else (better speakers or the like, you get the drift).

I know, but i was looking for an answer like "get x card because blah blah". On the other hand i might settle for 256mb seeing that its todays standards for tommorows games.

the extra ram onboard doesn't really affect performance in todays games as they don't use large enough textures.
this might change though when it all goes 64bits, so think about how long you want the videocard to last and base your decision on that.
like I said before, it doesn't really matter which card you get because they're both top of the line cards delivering almost the same performance.

edit: love your sig, how's the MX1000 compared to the MX700?

Yeah, basically its for my bros PC and it needs an overhaul one or two pieces at a time. So im thinking vid card first then mobo/cpu then maybe ram. Compared to his long line of mediocore cards hes had this one will rock for a long time.

Mx1000 hands down the best mouse ive EVER used. The battery span is very long, reaching 3-5days before a recharge. It fits my larger then avg hand very good and its sensitivity is amazing. You cant compare an LED mouse with a laser mouse, Im tellin' ya that once you go laser its akward and slow dealing with LED mouses completly. Very good if you play games, the smallest touch makes the mouse totaly respond, great accuracy.

Edit: I had the mx700/500 before this one

well i have an x800 sapphire pro, and you'll be hearing no complaints with me, im not to big on all the technicall shit, but i can tell you this, i run hl2 source and get 150+fps constant, i run the stress test, and my best score was just over 200 fps. so with that being said, im sure you know who my vote is for. :) ovecoarse ive never tryed the 6800 myself, but my friend has one, and he never beats my scoars, although he only has a gig of pc 2700 ram, which may make the diff.

I would get the 6800 just because it's easier to own. you don't have to wait for new drivers to get the best performance, or to correct problems with games.
I have owned ati (for 5 years) doing all the video card driver updates every month to make things work right.
Now I own a 6600gt, and driver updates are almost optional, every game just runs right.
    much easier to own.

I know this post might get me flamed, but I know this from my personal experience, all I can tell you is how things worked out for me.
    your experience may differ.

Went with the x800 256mb ddr3; some OC'ing and the likes should do good, wanted to see how this ATI performs. I've owned 9200/9600/9800/9800pro/9800xt and they all came out good driver wise so I dont have a problem with that.
