    Hello everyone.

Here is my current hardware spec.

    Amd64 3000 (939)
    512mb pc3200
    geforce 6600
    2x raid0 maxtor u320 drives (u160 controller)

At the moment, the machine goes well but I'm finding the geforce 6600 is struggling. I play battlefield 2 quite a bit and would like to run it better than at the moment.

I cannot decide what to replace it with. Ideally, I would like to run at high settings in BF2 but I dont mind turning things down a little.
What would people recommend I replace it with (bearing in mind cost/good value for money)?

    Thanks in advance.

your video card is "ok" but I also would strongly recommend up to 1gb, or better yet get low latency pc3200, like OCZ el plat/ Titanium or XMS extreme low latency ram.

bf2 needs PLENTY of ram. i was playing it on my 6600 with no problems a gig of ram is almost a necessity these days :)

don't buy a new card. that card is more than adequate it's just BF2 that requires too much ram for your system.
    I've seen bf2 use 700mb of ram.

best thing to do...buy 1 more stick of ram.

Most of you didn't read it properly.

He said the card was a 6600, not a 6600 GT, there is a big difference in performance.

As far as what card to get, you don't tell us if it's AGP or PCI-X?

If it's AGP, then a 6800 plus some extra RAM.

If it's PCI-X, then a 7800 GT plus some extra RAM.

Thanks for your replies everyone. :)

I have some fast memory in my machine. Cannot remember what it was called though. Even though its 512mb, I think the biggest problem is the gf6600 because either I have ok frame rates but poor image quality or poor frame rates and reasonable image quality.

I am using pci-express. Cannot decide what to replace the 6600 with though. He's my list so far.

    XFX 6600GT - £107
    MSI 6800GS - £155
    Point of View Nvidia 7800GT - £192

I would like the 7800gt but I am not so sure about spending nearly £200 on just a video card with probably fairly high depreciation. :(

6800GS is an uber card. It's only slightly slower than a GT.

Can you confirm you are getting another stick of 512mb ram, since you won't be able to play BF2 with 512mb even if you DO get a new card! :)

I'm half wishing I had jumped at that 7800gt now.
Ebuyer.com have just increased its price from £192 inc vat and delivery to £199 +vat and delivery (£240). :(

Yeh, I'll be going to 1gb of ram too.
